We have received a lovely email from a local mum. Thank you to her- it can't have been easy to write-
"My dad wasn't the kind of dad I would've wished for. He had lots of issues and he made life difficult for the rest of us. It was very stressful growing up in our house and the things I went through made it really hard for me to get to where I am now.
Meeting a local dad initially and then being a part of the Salford Dadz project has had a massive affect on my life.
The way I communicate with men and how I view them is changing and I no longer feel like they are a species from another planet!
Being around such engaging and positive men has also had a huge impact on my relationship with my son, as I have often been guilty of generalising about what he will be like when he grows up. I am sad to admit that I have previously felt that my son's capacity for kindness and compassion was predetermined and that he would never be as strong or as loving as a female. I believe this is from being without any positive male role models in my childhood and this has unfortunately had a lasting affect on me and still means that I find it very hard to trust any man in my life.
It upsets me deeply to know that my son will have felt these vibes from me from a very early age and I will always wonder how it has shaped him and how it affects the relationships and friendships he has now and in the future.
I am happy to say that I now have a new perspective on things after spending time with the Salford Dadz and seeing for myself what kind, caring, understanding & communicative fathers they are. Through this opportunity I have addressed my own values and core beliefs and finally dispensed with old negative views of what a 'dad' is like!
Salford Dadz have amazed me with their respectful and caring attitudes and I feel so grateful to have been introduced to them and have learnt so much more than anyone can ever imagine from this experience.
I would like all women and men who have had a lack of positive role models in their lives to meet these men and those like them so that they may be able to see things differently and open their hearts and minds to positive change!"
